San Antonio, TX : SAISD school bus struck and killed a pedestrian just north of downtown on Thursday afternoon, April 23, 2015

A San Antonio Independent School District bus was involved in a fatal pedestrian accident Thursday afternoon.

The bus was traveling north in the 400 block of San Pedro Avenue when it struck and killed a man in his 60s just after 2:30 p.m.

The woman driving the bus told police she saw the man on the sidewalk, and then felt a bump and didn't see him anymore. She stopped and saw the man lying in the street. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

District spokeswoman Leslie Price said the driver, whose name has not been released, has been with SAISD for more than six years.

Price said three children, ages 3-4 years old, were on the bus at the time of the accident. None of them were injured and police said none of the children witnessed the accident.

The bus had left Carvajal Early Childhood Education Center when the accident happened. Another bus was sent to the scene to take the children home.
