A driver involved in a fatal Saturday morning crash in southwest Charlotte has been charged with DWI.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said two vehicles were involved in the crash on South Tryon Street near Moss Road at 2:12 a.m.
Kelly Ann Conkin, 23, was driving on South Tryon Street when her car hit a curb on the right side of the road and veered to left, according to CMPD. Investigators said she crossed over two lanes, through a grass median, and
hit a car head on.
The car she is accused of hitting had four people inside. Two passengers were taken to Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) with serious injuries. A rear passenger, 79-year-old Cecelia DeGonzalez died from her injuries while in
the hospital.
Two other passengers in the car were taken to CMC with minor injuries.
Conkin was taken to Carolinas Medical Center and charged with driving while impaired. Police said she is listed in serious condition.
Conkin will also face felony death by vehicle, serious injury by motor vehicle, reckless driving and possession of marijuana charges once she is released from CMC.
