A 70-year-old man is dead after being hit by a car while riding his bike on Saturday afternoon.

The man, later identified as Charles A. Startup of Oberlin, Ohio, was biking eastbound on Butternut Ridge Road in Lorain County.

At approximately 4:48 p.m., an eye witness said a dark-colored Ford, possibly a 2012 Ford Focus, struck the cyclist from the rear.

According to the witness, the vehicle slowed down briefly, then speed away from the scene.

The bicyclist was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
