Knoxville, TN : Six people injured after wreck on Interstate 40 in Knox County on Thursday morning, December 4, 2014

At least six people were injured in a crash on Interstate 40 near mile marker 369 in Knox County Thursday morning, one of which says he is lucky to be alive. The Tennessee Department of Transportation says the crash was reported around 8:06 a.m. Rural/Metro personnel on the scene said the crash involved multiple vehicles and a tractor trailer. All lanes reopened around 11:30 a.m. Around noon, WATE 6 On Your Side saw a picture posted to Facebook by a woman who said her husband was in a pickup squeezed between a tractor-trailer and the highway divider. After a trip to the ER and the eye doctor, Tyson Hamilton went by Jim's Garage to get his things out of his smashed pick-up truck. "From what I've been told apparently my truck went airborne and flipped a few times," he said. It all happened just before 8 a.m. when Hamilton was on his way to work. "Traffic stopped fairly quickly. Not quite slamming on the breaks, but not a casual stop either," he said. That's when the hits started coming, including a semi. "I was getting banged around. It seems like I was hit numerous times and then the last think I remember was when the truck was dragging me and I could just see the road there. Luckily my arm didn't get caught," he said. Once everything was quiet, he knew he needed to get out. "I finally unbuckled myself and saw the only way it seemed to get out I had to kick out the back window and I was able to squeeze through there," he said. At least six people were hurt, but Hamilton says most, like him, were able to walk away. "Compared to what it looked like, I was grateful to get out alive," he said. Troopers haven't finished their report, so it's not yet clear exactly what caused that wreck. Source : Man grateful to be alive after West Knox County interstate crash
