NASHVILLE, TN : 1 killed in crash on I-24 near Murfreesboro on Friday, 26th January 2024

One person was killed in a crash on Interstate 24 near Murfreesboro on Friday night, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The crash involved two vehicles and occurred just before 6:15 p.m. near mile marker 72. Lanes were closed in both directions as the vehicles ended up in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes.

THP said Diego Gomez, 49, was traveling east when he ran off the side of the roadway, overcorrected his vehicle and lost control. Gomez was going the wrong way down the interstate, attempting to get to the shoulder, when another driver traveling down I-24 hit his vehicle.

Gomez died as a result of the crash, and his 23-year-old passenger sustained injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured, according to THP.
