Naperville, IL : Two people injured after 7-vehicle crash on Interstate 88 near the Naperville-Warrenville border on Wednesday night, January 4, 2017
Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday night following a seven-vehicle pileup on Interstate 88 near the Naperville-Warrenville border, an Illinois State Police official said.
The crash occurred about 6:40 p.m. in the interstate's westbound lanes, Master Sgt. Brian McKinney said. The crash scene was just east of the Route 59 interchange and adjacent to the headquarters of Nicor Gas in Naperville.
Two women were taken to Edward Hospital" in Naperville for treatment of what McKinney said were minor injuries. He did not know how many other people were involved in the crash or how it might have occurred because a trooper's written report on the incident had yet to be submitted, he said.
Five of the seven vehicles damaged in the crash had to be towed from the scene, McKinney said. They included two Hyundai Sonata cars, a Volkswagen Jetta, a Ford car and a gray Mazda.
McKinney added he did not know whether criminal charges were filed or traffic tickets issued to anyone following the crash.
The crash brought westbound traffic to a standstill for a time, and snarled traffic for more than an hour after more after that, he said. Westbound traffic at one point backed up past the interstate's entrance and exit ramps at Naperville Road, about four miles to the east.
