A 62-year-old woman riding on a motorcycle died in a crash on westbound Interstate 90 near Snoqualmie Pass summit around noon on Wednesday, Washington State Patrol troopers said.
Noticing a construction crew doing road work, the driver of an unidentified vehicle made an abrupt stop, causing the driver of the motorcycle, a 66-year-old man, to lose control, Trooper Chris Webb said.
The motorcycle then slid into a third vehicle, one of the construction crew’s trucks, troopers said.
The woman, from Maple Valley, was pronounced dead at the crash site. Medical investigators will formally identify her.The driver of the motorcycle, also from Maple Valley, suffered a leg injury and a possible head injury, Webb said. Medics took him to Harborview Medical Center. Further details on his condition remain unknown, he said.
To investigate the crash, authorities temporarily closed the westbound roadway and detoured vehicles, causing heavy-traffic backups in the area throughout Wednesday afternoon.
Webb said the crash is a reminder to exercise extra caution in construction zones.
“When you see messages with an arrow board, just go slow,” he said.
