Salinas, CA: Salinas brothers killed in Highway 68 crash identified on Friday, July 31st 2015
Two brothers from Salinas were driving to work Friday morning on Highway 68 near Foster Road when they died in a crash.The brothers were farm workers, and the California Highway Patrol identified them as 20-year-old Aristeo Garciapadilla and 16-year-old Marcelino Garciapadilla.The victims had been driving a Toyota westbound on Highway 68. CHP officers said the Toyota made an unsafe turn, spun out, swerved into oncoming traffic, and struck another vehicle.The Toyota's engine then caught fire and the young men were trapped inside. Flames fully engulfed the car before emergency responders arrived at 6 a.m.The driver of the other vehicle, Samuel Glen Mayhew, 62, Moorpark, Calif., was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. He is expected to survive.Highway 68 was closed for nearly four hours while officers investigated what caused the wreck.
