Tulsa, OK : Manslaughter charge filed against man in fatal crash on Sand Springs Expressway on Friday, 16th March 2018
A manslaughter charge was filed Friday against a man who is alleged to have been under the influence of drugs when he crashed his minivan on the Sand Springs Expressway last October, resulting in the death of his passenger.
Charles Steven Burgner, 39, was charged in Tulsa County District Court on Friday with first-degree manslaughter.
A court affidavit indicates that Burgner was driving east in a 2005 Ford Freestar about 9:25 p.m. when the vehicle veered off the highway near 41st West Avenue and went down a grassy median before striking yellow sand barrels and rolling several times before coming to rest in the highway's westbound lanes.
Burgner and a passenger in the vehicle, 33-year-old Patricia Sartin, were taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment. Sartin died from her injuries two days after the crash.
