Kansas City,KS : 22-year-old driver in crash charged with motor vehicle on October, Wednesday 4th 2017
A 22-year-old driver involved in a fatal car wreck Wednesday night has been charged in a warrant with felony motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Paige Seaton had a blood-alcohol level of .180, Sarpy County Attorney Lee Polikov said in a Friday press release. That’s more than twice the legal limit of .08.
Seaton was driving north on Nebraska Highway 50 about 9:10 p.m. when her car crossed the center line and collided nearly head-on with a southbound car driven by Elisa Linscott, 48, officials said. The crash occurred at Riha Road, just north of the Platte River. Linscott’s car ended up in a ditch east of the highway.
Authorities said officers found an open alcohol container in Seaton’s car. She was on probation after pleading guilty to driving under the influence in Douglas County.
A passenger in Linscott’s car — her 15-year-old daughter, Alexandra — died at the scene. Elisa Linscott was listed in serious condition Friday at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Seaton also was injured in the crash. She, too, was at the Nebraska Medical Center on Friday, but officials could not release her condition.
Alexandra Linscott, a sophomore at Waverly High School, was a front-seat passenger in her mother’s Ford Fusion. They were returning to their home in Eagle, Nebraska, after the teen attended a practice at Motion41 Dance in Omaha.
Alexandra loved music and the arts, said Waverly High School Principal Ryan Ricenbaw. She played saxophone in the band and danced after school.
Ricenbaw said Waverly students got together Thursday and decided to pass out pink ribbons to wear at Friday’s football game. One ribbon has ballet shoes on it and reads “Leap, twirl, dance.” The other has Alexandra’s initials on each end.
“I’m very proud of the amount of support that kids have provided each other,” Ricenbaw said. “The kids are doing a really nice job of handling a tough situation.”
The marching band, which has a competition in Kansas City today, will wear the ribbons while performing.
Alexandra loved to dance so much that she went to two dance studios to practice — in Lincoln and in Omaha.
