Molalla,OR : Molalla woman and teen died in Highway 99 crash on November, Wednesday 22th 2017
A Molalla woman and 16-year-old boy have been identified as those who died in a two-car crash Wednesday on Highway 99W south of Corvallis, according to the Benton County Sheriff’s Office.
Tonya Renee Moore, 43, was driving a Saturn SL when it was struck head-on by a car about 2:34 p.m at the intersection with Finley Road. Medics with the Monroe Fire Department pronounced Moore dead at the scene. The teenager, whose name authorities did not release, also died at the scene.
The sheriff’s office identified 21-year-old Emory Page Coates of Philomath as the driver of the other car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee. Coates was driving northbound on the highway just south of milepost 93. She reportedly attempted to pass a northbound recreational vehicle and drove into the southbound lane. Coates attempted to drive quickly back into her lane and lost control of her car, the sheriff’s office said. The Jeep spun back into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Saturn SL.
Coates was able to exit her car on her own. She did not have any passengers. Coates was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
A 17-year-old Molalla girl was also in the Saturn SL. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Authorities withheld her name.
The Benton County Multi-Agency Traffic Collision Investigation Team processed the scene. The initial investigation did not indicate drugs or alcohol as factors in the crash. Deputies are continuing to investigate the crash and asked anyone with information about the wreck to contact Sgt. David Peterson at 541-766-6820.
Highway 99W was closed for about four-and-a-half hours Wednesday evening, with the Oregon Department of Transportation assisting with traffic control.
