ARUNDEL, ME : Sanford woman dies in Route 111 crash on Sunday, January, 21st 2018
York County Sheriff’s deputies are continuing their investigattion into a crash that claimed the life of a 45 year-old Sanford woman early Sunday morning.
Sheriff William King said a preliminary investigation showed that Kerry Kiernan was driving her 2005 Chevrolet Impala east on Route 111 around 1:45 a.m. when it crossed the center line and struck a black 2016 GMC Sierra operated by John Sanborn, 22 of Alfred, who was traveling west on the roadway.
The head-on crash took place on Route 111 near the intersection with Limerick Road.
Both Kiernan and Sanborn were alone in their vehicles.
Kiernan was ejected and was pronounced dead at the scene. King said Sanborn was transported to Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford and treated for minor injuries.
Rescue units from Arundel Fire and rescue and Goodwin Mills Fire and Rescue responded to the scene. Route 111 was shut down until approximately 9:30 Sunday morning.
The crash is being reconstructed by deputies and remains under investigation, the sheriff said in a statement.
