VAN NUYS, CA : 21-year-old woman killed, 4 others hurt in Van Nuys crash on Sunday, 16th July 2023

A 21-year-old woman was killed and several other people were hurt, including an 11-year-old girl, in a head-on crash in Van Nuys.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Sunday on Saticoy Street near the 405 Freeway, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Police say a man believed to be driving under the influence was traveling westbound when it veered into eastbound lanes, colliding with another car before striking a power pole.

A woman in the second vehicle died at the scene. She has not been identified. Four other people were injured including the young girl whose condition wasn't available.

The man was detained on suspicion of DUI. Additional details were not available.

After the crash, wires were reported to be down in the area, so LADWP crews were called out to the scene.
