JACKSON, MS : Motorcycle crashes and burns on Monday, December 26th 2016

Jackson police are investigating a motorcycle accident that occurred Monday night. It happened in the southbound lane of I-55 just south of the Briarwood exit.

Commander Tyree Jones told 3 On Your Side, the bike caught fire after the crash.

An eyewitness said she saw it all unfold while she dined at a near by restaurant.

We was sitting at Fuddruckers eating outside and uh when he drove by, he hit the accelerator and then I looked and all see was sparks and his bike was slipping and a big truck behind him," said Rushawn Smith. "But they stopped and then he slid down the street and then, what 3 minutes later, it blew up. The bike blew up."

Smith said the driver got up and ran.

Commander Jones says he was taken to a residence and later transported by AMR to a hospital.

No word on his condition or his name or whether speed was a factor.
