North Platte, NE : One person has died following a wreck on May, Thursday, 11th 2017
North Platte police have confirmed that one person has died Thursday following a wreck on Newberry Access.
Mike Torres, 73, died after the pickup he was a passenger in collided with a semi-trailer truck just before 3:15 p.m.
On Thursday evening, there were few details about the wreck available. Sgt. Kendall Allison said a preliminary investigation indicated that a semitrailer truck had pulled off Walker Road onto Newberry Access and was struck by a northbound pickup truck.
“The pickup clipped the side of the back of the semi and rolled several times,” Allison said.
The truck came to a rest on its top on the median near the Flying J Truck Stop.
Torres and the driver of the vehicle were taken to Great Plains Health. On Thursday evening, Allison said he was unsure of the extent of the driver’s injuries. The driver of the semi truck was not injured.
The North Platte Police Department, North Platte Fire Department, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol responded to the scene. Following the wreck, a portion of the northbound lanes of Newberry Access was closed off and firefighters cleaned up an apparent fuel spill. The Nebraska State Patrol assisted the North Platte Police Department with reconstructing the wreck.
