LIMA,OH : Lima man dies after crashing motorcycle on August, Monday 7th 2017
An Aug. 7 crash involving a car and a motorcycle has now resulted in a fatality, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
At 10:43 p.m., Cody Rollins, 22, of Lima, was driving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata west on West Elm Street near Homestead Drive in American Township. Brandon L. Matos, 23, of Lima, was riding a 2004 Yamaha YZFR1 motorcycle east on that same road when Rollins attempted to make a left turn onto Homestead Drive, causing Matos’ motorcycle to hit Rollins’ vehicle.
Matos, who was wearing his helmet, was thrown from the vehicle into the Ottawa River, where he was rescued by passers-by in the area. Rollins was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Matos was taken to St. Rita’s Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. On Sunday, he was taken by ambulance to Cleveland University Hospital, where he died.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was still investigating the crash Tuesday.
