Caddo parish, LA: Hwy 79 reopens after near fatal crash on Wednesday, July 15th 2015
A man is fighting for his life after a 3 vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler closed down part of Hwy. 79 Wednesday night.The accident happened near the intersection of Hwy. 79 and Buncombe Rd. in Caddo parish just before 10:30 p.m.An 18-wheeler traveling southbound crossed the center line near Buncombe Rd. and hit a Chevy truck head-on. After impact, the 18-wheeler crashed in the woods. The Chevy truck was pulling another vehicle on a trailer which came off and hit a SUV with a family of 4 behind it. No one in the SUV was injured.The driver of the Chevy truck was flown to University Health by lifeair for what are believed to be life threatening injuries.The driver of the 18-wheeler has been identified as 52-year-old Stephen Marvel of Marion, Ark. He also went to University Health where he is reportedly in good condition.Caddo sheriff's deputies closed Hwy. 79 from Bethany-State Line Road to Locust Hill Road for almost 8 hours while they investigated and cleared the accident.The driver of the 18-wheeler is expected to be cited for the accident.
