MONTROSE, IL : A four-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 on Wednesday, August 9, 2017
An Indiana man died Wednesday afternoon from injuries received in a four-vehicle accident on Interstate 70.
A truck driver from Shelbyville received a traffic citation for allegedly causing the accident, according to a news release from Illinois State Police.
Daniel T. Waterfill, 61, of Plainfield, Ind., was pronounced dead at the scene, two miles east of Montrose in Cumberland County, the news release said.
It said the accident took place in the interstate's eastbound lane about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday when Waterfill's car and two other vehicles had stopped or slowed for a construction zone.
A tractor-trailer driven by Coles A. Johnson, 24, of Shelbyville failed to stop and hit the rear of Waterfill's car, causing the accident, the release said.
It said Johnson received a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
It also said the impact forced Waterfill's car to hit the back of the tractor-trailer driven by Dale E. Bondy of Waterloo, Iowa. Bondy's truck was pushed into back of another tractor-trailer driven by Alerto Rios, a resident of Mexico, it said.
