Kentwood, LA : Man killed in head-on collision on LA 38 east of Kentwood on Sunday night, March 20, 2016

Louisiana State Police are investigating a head-on crash that killed a Kentwood man Sunday night.

State Police say they crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. on LA 38 east of Kentwood.

According to State Police, an initial investigation revealed that a 2014 GMC Sierra driven by 38-year-old Matthew Jacob Peek was traveling westbound on LA 38 when for unknown reasons he crossed into the eastbound lane.

Phillip A. Williams, 59, who was driving his 1996 Dodge 3500 eastbound, attempted to avoid Peek's vehicle by driving onto the right shoulder of the road. Despite Williams' efforts, his vehicle was hit head-on by Peek's vehicle.

Williams who was severely injured in the crash was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. State Troopers were later notified that Williams succumbed to his injuries Monday morning.

Peek was transported to North Oaks Medical Center where he was treated for moderate injuries.

Blood samples were taken from both Williams and Peek and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

State Police say that when they conclude their investigation, their findings will be sent to the Tangipahoa Parish District Attorney's Office.
