Rankin County, MS : Two people dead and one person injured in a head-on crash along Highway 469 on Friday October 3rd 2014
A head-on crash in Rankin County on Friday killed two people and sent another to a hospital.
Authorities with the Mississippi Highway Patrol said all lanes of Highway 469 were closed just south of Highway 468 near the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility after the crash.
Investigators said two people were in an Infiniti traveling south as a Dodge Ram was traveling north and crossed into the path of the car, hitting it head-on.
The driver of the Infiniti, Kimberly Copeland, 18, of Clinton, and a passenger, Joshua Page, 19, of Florence, were killed in the crash.
"It's very serious. It was a very devastating crash, a lot of debris in the roadway. The vehicle is in very bad condition, so we had to get the Jaws of Life to get them out," Trooper Eric Henry said.
The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as Michael Allen, 40, of Brandon, was flown by helicopter to University of Mississippi Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
