Tallahassee, FL : Mother of 5 dies in Lakeshore head-on crash on Tuesday, January 10th 2017
A mother of five died in a head-on collision in the Lakeshore neighborhood Tuesday, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said.
Police identified the victim as Tomonia Michelle Turner, 37, of Jacksonville.
The crash was reported just before 3 p.m. on Lake Shore Boulevard near Cedarwood Road.
According to police, Turner was traveling east on Lake Shore Boulevard when another car heading in the opposite direction left its lane and struck her vehicle head-on.
Turner was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, and later died.
"She was on her way to pick up her youngest son and they called her fiance, Antonio Mitchell, and told him. He called me and asked me to meet the ambulance at Shands, where they were taking her, while he picked up the children. At that point we didn't have any information or what happened," said Tarsha Watson, Turner's cousin.
Her family described Turner as a wonderful person who cared deeply for her four sons and 8-month-old daughter. Cyrrus Trimings, her middle child, said he's having a very hard time dealing with the loss of his mother.
"She was a pretty woman. She was always funny. She was always a caring and kind person. I'm going to miss Mommy," he said through tears. "She was taking care of all of us."
Family members said they will continue to provide Turner's children support.
"She followed all the rules when it came to transporting her children and driving. To know that, it hurts when you go above and beyond to do what you're supposed to do, and then somebody else so carelessly makes a huge mistake," Watson said.
Turner was taken way too soon and had so much more life ahead of her, family members said. They're now in the process of making funeral arrangements.
The Sheriff's Office continues to investigate.
