A man led authorities on a short chase overnight before he died in a crash on State Highway 183 in Irving.
A Dallas County sheriff's deputy attempted a traffic stop on the driver of a black Lexus. The driver was going nearly 90 mph in a 60 mph zone on Interstate 35E near Inwood Road about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, said Melinda Urbina, a spokeswoman for the Dallas County sheriff's office.
The driver fled west at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The deputy lost sight of the Lexus and was about to call off the chase when he saw the vehicle engulfed in flames, Urbina said.
The driver had tried to take the Carl Road exit but lost control on a sharp turn. He crashed and was trapped inside the burning vehicle.
The deputy used multiple fire extinguishers but was unable to put out the fire.
