Hendersonville, NC : Two people injured in Motorcycle wreck in Gerton on Saturday, JULY 23, 2016
The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a motorcycle accident at 12:48 p.m. Saturday in Gerton that sent two motorcycle riders to Mission Hospital.
The accident occurred as the motorcycle headed east on Highway 74, veering left of center and striking a vehicle in a near-head-on collision, according to Trooper David Williams. Occupants of the vehicle were not injured, he said.
The motorcycle passenger was airlifted to Mission, while the driver was taken to a hospital by ground. The driver, whose name has not been released, was in stable condition and was alert at the time of the accident, Williams said.
The passenger, who is the driver’s wife, was more critically injured, he added.
The Highway Patrol is unsure of what caused the motorcycle to head into oncoming traffic, though Williams said excessive speed was involved.
