Morristown, TN : Mooresburg man dies in Hawkins crash early Saturday morning, March 11, 2017
A Mooresburg man died early Saturday morning after his Ford automobile collided head-on with a Ford Explorer on Highway 31 in Hawkins County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Trooper Jacob Hansel identified the deceased as 35-year-old Justin Carter. Funeral arrangements for Carter had not been announced by press time.
The driver of the Explorer, 40-year-old Sneedville resident Stephen Smith, and his passenger, Craig E. Sharp, 45, Sneedville, were injured, but it remains unclear if they were hospitalized following the 2:05 a.m. crash.
All three were wearing seat belts.
Smith was southbound on Highway in a relatively straight stretch of Highway 31 when his crossed the centerline and struck the northbound SUV head-on, according to Hansel.
The trooper reported Smith was not drinking alcohol. A mandatory blood test will be conducted on Smith and Carter.
