Greeley , CO: Two People were killed after unrelated traffic crashes in Weld County on saturday evening , February 7th 2015

Elmer Lundvall, 94, was killed just after 5 p.m. in a traffic crash in west Greeley. The man was the single-occupant of a minivan, which collided with a sports utility vehicle at the intersection of U.S. 34 Bypass and 95th Avenue, Greeley Fire Department spokesman Dominic Totti said. Lundvall died at the scene

The man in the minivan had been stopped at the stop sign and attempted to cross the highway when his minivan collided with the westbound SUV, Greeley police spokesman Sgt. Joe Tymkowych said.

Authorities diverted westbound traffic from U.S. 34 at 83rd Avenue for about four hours while they worked to clear the wreckage and investigate the crash. The westbound lanes were reopened just after 9 p.m.

Three occupants of the SUV were taken by ambulance to North Colorado Medical Center with moderate to serious injuries. A flight for life helicopter also was called to the scene, however, first-responders were able to transport all the patients in ambulances, and the helicopter wasn’t needed.

No other details about the crash, including the names of the other three involved, were immediately available.

The first crash of the day occurred not long after midnight on Saturday morning while Greggory Hidden was to his driving home in Mead.

Hidden was less than a mile from his home when he lost control of his vehicle and died in a rollover crash.

The 66-year-old Mead man had been refereeing a sporting event in Wyoming on Friday night. He was on his way home when the crash happened, Weld County Sheriff’s office spokesman Sgt. Sean Standridge said.

The crash happened about 12:50 a.m. when Hidden was driving his SUV southbound on Interstate 25 Frontage Road, near Weld County Road 38, just outside Mead. He lost control of the vehicle and over corrected. The vehicle rolled.

Hidden, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 1:35 a.m., according to the Weld County Coroner’s Office.

The two fatalities bring the number of people who have died on Weld road so far this year to 16. Through this date last year, no one had died. Weld did not see its 16th traffic fatality last year until June 1.

Saturday’s fatal crashes also bring the total for the first week of February to three.
