Akron, OH : One officer involved in crash on Wednesday night June 25th 2014
An Akron police officer was involved in a crash around 11 p.m. Wednesday night.
Authorities say the cruiser was traveling northbound on South Main Street when it was struck by a 2004 Ford Escape that was driving westbound on East Miller Street.
Police say the driver of the Ford ran a flashing red light, which caused the crash. The Ford Escape then overturned to its roof.
The officer, identified as a 22-year veteran assigned to the traffic bureau, was taken to Akron City Hospital.
The driver of the Ford Escape, a 27-year-old woman from Tallmadge, was taken to Akron General Medical Center.
Neither suffered life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation and police say alcohol appears to be a factor. Charges are expected.
