Emporia, KS : 60-year-old man injured in a wreck on Wednesday, March 15, 2017

A 60-year-old Emporia man was taken to the hospital with apparent back pain Wednesday following a two-vehicle wreck.

At 11:11 a.m. Wednesday, Emporia Police officers responded to the report of an accident at the intersection of South State Street and West Randolph Avenue. An ambulance was called to the scene shortly after law enforcement arrived because one of the drivers reported back pain.

Accoring to the Emporia Police Department, the investigating officer on scene reported a four-door Toyota passenger car driven by 54-year-old Gary Waechter of Emporia had been southbound on South State Street before turning east onto West Randolph Avenue. When Waechter made the turn, his vehicle struck a Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck driven by 60-year-old Raul Aldrete-Murillo, also of Emporia.

The pickup truck was stopped at a stop sign facing west along West Randolph Avenue.

Aldrete-Murillo was transported by ambulance to Newman Regional Health after complaining of back pain. Waechter was cited at the scene for careless driving.
