SYRACUSE, NY : Interstate 81 off-ramp crash sends 3 to Syracuse hospitals during rush hour on Monday, 26th March 2018
Three people were on their way to the hospital Monday evening after one car crashed into the back of another car on the Interstate 81 South off-ramp at Exit 17 in Syracuse, according to uninjured passengers.
Amada Perry, of Syracuse, was driving a red 1998 Cadillac Eldorado at 5:43 p.m. when she struck the back of a yellow 2003 Dodge Neon on the off-ramp, according to her son who asked not to be named.
"They stopped fast and we went into the back of them," he said.
Jason Wheeler, 42, of Syracuse, said he was driving the Neon. Wheeler said he thought the driver of the Eldorado was speeding.
"She just slammed into me," Wheeler said.
Items from the back of the Neon pushed into the back seat, where Wheeler's 9-year-old daughter was sitting, he said.
After the crash, both cars continued onto McClure Avenue, about a block from the off-ramp during rush hour traffic.
