JASPER, GA : Pedestrian killed in I-75 accident Saturday night on Saturday, February 25th 2017
A pedestrian trying to cross the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 was struck by four vehicles and was pronounced deceased in Hamilton County on Saturday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Charles Burton, 46, of New Glarus, Wis., tried to cross the southbound lanes near mile marker 455, just north of the Jasper and Live Oak exit of I-75 for an unknown reason according to the FHP report. Burton’s vehicle was parked on the northbound side of the interstate, the report states.
Cody Fulmer, 24, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., was driving his 2012 Ford Focus south in the left lane when the victim walked into his path, according to the report. The Focus’ front right side struck the victim where he then was thrown into the center lane, the report states.
There, Leonard Sheridan, 33, of Live Oak, swerved left but struck the victim with the front right side of his 2000 Pontiac Firebird, according to the report. The Firebird front bumper then struck the guardrail, the report states, and came to a stop in the roadway.
Michael Brazile, 46, of Akron, Ohio, who was following Sheridan in the center lane, then hit the victim with his 2003 Infinity, the report states, causing disabling damage. The Infinity stopped on the right shoulder facing south, according to the report.
Also in the center lane was the 1996 Mercury Grand Marquis of Willie Johnson, 50, of Shellman, Ga., the report states. Johnson tried to swerve left but also struck the victim and then the front bumper of the Mercury struck the rear bumper of Sheridan’s Pontiac, causing disabling damage, according to the report, before coming to a stop on the right shoulder facing west. The Firebird stopped in the left lane facing east, the report states.
Cristopher Cates, 63, of Morton, Ill., was in the left lane with his 2011 Toyota Camry and struck the rear of the Pontiac which was stopped in that lane, causing disabling damage according to the report. Cates stopped in the roadway facing north, while the Pontiac stopped facing east.
Johnson suffered serious injuries, according to the report, and was taken to Shands at the University of Florida. No other drivers were injured, according to the report, nor were passengers Taylor Barfield, 23, of Soddy Daisy, Tenn., Kata Sheridan, 31, of Live Oak, or Marlon Allen, 25, of Akron, Ohio.
Charges are pending investigation, the report states.
