Knoxville, TN : One dead after car hits tractor trailer on I-40 in West Knox County on Tuesday morning, September 30, 2014

One person was killed Tuesday morning when a car crashed into a flatbed tractor trailer on Interstate 40 in West Knox County. The Knox County Sheriff's Office says around 6:30 a.m. just before the Watt Road on ramp, a 2002 Mitsubishi Mirage going eastbound slammed into the back of a flatbed tractor trailer that was stopped in traffic due to a stalled vehicle. The driver of the Mirage was pronounced dead on the scene by Rural/Metro. A passenger was taken to UT Medical Center with serious injuries. The tractor trailer driver was not hurt. Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt. It is not yet known if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash. Names of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members.
