Columbus,OH : Police ID 3 killed in Carthage crash when vehicle fled police on September, Monday 18th 2017

Three men died in Carthage when their vehicle crashed as they fled Springfield Township police overnight, Cincinnati police said.

The driver, Mussah Pierre, 36, and two passengers, John Edwards, 35, and Jermaine Tucker, 21, all died of injuries at the scene in the 100 block of West North Bend Road in Carthage.

Police said the Chevrolet Impala driver by Pierre crossed the center line, crashed into a parked car, flipped and came to rest after slamming into a tree around at 12:18 a.m.

Just after 7 a.m., police announced two more bodies were found in the car, after initially saying on man was dead. The car was totaled and on its side, wrapped around the tree in a residential front yard.

There was never any active pursuit in the minutes leading up to the crash, according to Cincinnati police but excessive speed was a factor in the crash. Police said none of the occupants were wearing seatbelts.

The driver fled an attempted traffic stop initiated on Vine Street by an officer in neighboring Springfield Township at 12:15 a.m., Hamilton dispatchers said.

It was not immediately clear why Springfield Township police tried to pull the car over.

Radio traffic released Wednesday reveals an officer told a dispatcher he was following a blue Chevy Impala.
