A 99-year-old woman died Friday morning in a two-vehicle crash on the city's north side.
Gladys Sanders was a passenger in a car driven by her son Gary Sanders, 69, that was involved n a collision at the intersection of Ambler Avenue and Clinton Street, the Abilene Police Department said in a news release.
About 8:20 a.m. Friday, the Sanderses were traveling west on Ambler in a Hyundai, police reported. A Ford driven by Bryce Null, 28, was stopped at the stop sign at Clinton Street facing south, police said.
According to police, Null's view was obstructed by a second vehicle at the stop sign. Null apparently attempted to turn onto Ambler, and struck the Hyundai on the passenger side, causing it to veer across the oncoming lanes of traffic and strike a tree, police said.
Gladys Sanders, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at Hendrick Medical Center, according to police.
Gary Sanders was taken to Hendrick with non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash is under investigation, police said.
