St. Paul, MN : 63-year-old woman killed in a head-on crash on a freeway in St. Paul on Monday afternoon, March 30, 2015

One motorist was killed Monday afternoon when an SUV crossed the median of Interstate 94 in St. Paul and hit an oncoming pickup truck head-on. The woman driving the SUV was killed.

The crash took place near the Minnesota 280 interchange in St. Paul shortly after 3 p.m.

It wasn't immediately known why the SUV, a westbound Honda CRV, crossed the grassy median into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with the oncoming Ford pickup truck.

The fatally injured driver of the SUV was identified as Mee Y. Vue, 63, of St. Paul. The driver of the pickup was identified as Justin S. Honken, 34, of St. Paul. He suffered injuries that weren't considered life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The crash, which remains under investigation, closed I-94's eastbound lanes during the height of the evening commute. Traffic on eastbound I-94 was backed up as far west as downtown Minneapolis.

The freeway fully reopened by 7 p.m., according to the State Patrol.
