Nashville,TN : Pedestrian hit, killed by Music City Star train in Donelson on August, Tuesday 29th 2017

A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a Music City Star train while hundreds of people were onboard Tuesday morning.

Officials said the man was struck around 7:20 a.m. while walking along the tracks near the bridge at Stewarts Ferry Pike.

The train conductor, who had just picked people up in Hermitage and was headed to Donelson, told police he blew the horn to try and alert the man but didn't have time to stop.

The Nashville Fire Department recovered man's body from the Stones River. His name has not been released, but he is believed to be a 25-year-old from the Hermitage area.

Metro police said they do not believe this was a suicide and could have been a tragic accident.

A pair of headphones was found near the scene, which makes investigators believe the victim may have been wearing them.

"He was wearing a backpack. We have heard there were headphones recovered - or ear pods, buds recovered - so it's possible his back was to the train. It's possible he didn't hear the train coming," said Kris Mumford, spokeswoman for the Metro Nashville Police Department.
