Rome, NY : 91-year-old man killed in a car crash in Oneida County on Saturday, January 23, 2016

A 91-year-old man was killed Saturday in a car crash in Oneida County.

The Oneida County Sheriff's Office said that deputies responded just before 3 p.m. to a crash in the area of 6447 Lamphear Road in the city of Rome.

Petro Oleniuch, 91, of Lamphear Road, was driving a 2007 Buick west on Lamphear Road when the car left the road, the sheriff's office said. The vehicle smashed into a mailbox and then hit a tree.

In addition to police, the Rome Fire Department, Stanwix Heights Fire Department and AmCare Ambulance responded to the crash.

Oleniuch was rushed to the hospital where he died, the sheriff's office said. No one else was involved in the crash. The sheriff's office did not say what caused the crash.
