SEATTLE, WA : 1 killed, 1 hurt in rollover crash after high-speed police chase on Lake City Way on Thursday, December 8th, 2016
One person was killed and a second was injured in a rollover crash that ended a high-speed police chase Thursday morning in Seattle, officials said.
The drama began at about 4 a.m. when officers responded to a report of domestic violence in the Ravenna area, police said.
As they approached the scene, officers heard a single gunshot and saw a car take off at high speed. Police took off in pursuit of the suspect's car along Lake City Way.
As speeds reportedly reached up to 80 mph, the suspect lost control of the car and crashed into parked cars, power poles and other stationary objects in the 7500 block of Lake City Way.
One person was ejected and killed at the crash scene. A second person in the suspect's car was injured and had to be extricated from the wreckage. That person was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.
No other information was available about the two people in the suspect's car. There were conflicting statements from the survivor about who was driving.
The nearby on-ramp to Interstate 5 was closed after the crash but has since reopened. Some adjacent streets remain closed in the vicinity of the crash during the cleanup and investigation.
Police say they are still trying to track down the original source of the domestic violence call that preceded the chase and crash. They also are trying to determine if the gunshot was related to the domestic violence call.
