Agawam, MA : 38-year-old woman dies in single-vehicle crash on Sunday, November 2, 2014

A local woman has died in a single-vehicle accident in Agawam. Police say 38-year-old Melissa Hathorne was driving south on Garden Street just after 1 a.m. Sunday and had just crossed over the Route 57 overpass when she lost control of her Toyota SUV, struck a fire hydrant and a mound of dirt at a construction site. Hathorne, who was alone in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The hydrant was sheared and the gushing water caused significant damage to the road. The cause remains under investigation.
