Ottawa County, MI : Two hurt in nearly head-on collision in Tallmadge Township on Tuesday afternoon, September 13, 2016

Both drivers were sent to a Grand Rapids hospital after a two-car crash Tuesday afternoon in northeastern Ottawa County.

Police said the crash happened at a Tallmadge Township intersection at about 2:15 p.m.

Piecing together an on-scene investigation and a witness statement, police said a 2006 Cadillac CTS, traveling south on Eighth Avenue, proceeded to turn left onto Country Lane and in front of a northbound vehicle. That’s when the two cars collided nearly head-on, said Sgt. Steve Austin of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.

The Cadillac was being driven by 17-year-old Austin Portmann of Marne.

The northbound car, a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, was being driven by 67-year-old Michael Pater of Standale. Pater said he could not avoid the collision, Austin said.

Both drivers were transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital by Life ambulance. Portmann was in stable condition and Pater was in serious condition, Austin said.
