A Bakersfield man died in a high speed collision Sunday when his car careened into the center median of Alfred Harrell Highway, killing another adult passenger and injuring two children in the backseat, police officials said.
Marvin Palma, 27, was traveling west on Alfred Harrell Highway, east of Goodmanville Road, when he swerved into the guardrail in his 1998 Nissan Altima at about 4:40 p.m. He was traveling about 70 mph, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Palma and his passenger, 25-year old Bakersfield resident Francis Lopez, died from their injuries.
Two good samaritans rushed to pull two children from the backseat of the car. They were transported to Kern Medical Center with moderate injuries.
Police are investigating the crash, but said alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
