Pueblo,CO : Stolen vehicles involved in Pueblo hit-and-run crash on September, Friday 8th 2017

Occupants of two stolen vehicles were involved in a gang-related hit-and-run crash that involved shots being fired from one of the vehicles Friday afternoon.

Police received calls about the incident right around noon.

According to Sgt. Shelly Taylor of the Pueblo Police Department, a black SUV and a blue truck that appeared to be after each other were traveling at a high rate of speed on North Elizabeth Street.

It’s suspected that the black SUV was trailing just behind the blue truck and someone from the vehicle fired an unknown number of shots at the truck before the SUV rammed into the truck, causing both vehicles to spin out and wreck on the 1800 block of North Elizabeth.

The truck wrecked into the front yard of a home on the block, plowing over a pole and crashing into the rails of a staircase near the front of the home before coming to rest on the front lawn and partially on the sidewalk.

The SUV ended up crashing on its side in the street and parts from the vehicle lay scattered about around it.

The occupants of both vehicles fled the scene after wrecking, according to Taylor.

Police were able to apprehend one suspect who was reportedly inside the SUV and are looking for the others. Taylor said it’s believed there were two people inside each vehicle, based on witness statements.

The suspect police apprehended, who has not been identified, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a local hospital. Charges for that suspect are pending.

Taylor said the incident appeared to be gang-related.

Police had the street blocked off with tape as they investigated the wreckage well into Friday afternoon.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
