Mount Clemens,MI : State Police identify pedestrian killed in 1-94 crash on July, Tuesday 18th 2017
Authorities have released the name of the man who died after being struck by a vehicle on eastbound Interstate 94 near 12 Mile Road in Roseville earlier this week.
Jeffrey Dillion Strong, 46, of Roseville, died Tuesday morning, Michigan State Lt. Calvin Hart said late Friday in a news release.
Hart said the investigation into the incident is ongoing as police are awaiting the results of toxicology test results.
State police responded to reports around 6 a.m. about a man on the shoulder of the freeway who was gesturing to passing motorists. Witnesses told police it appeared the man was intentionally walking into the path of oncoming traffic.
Police on Tuesday said a preliminary investigation showed the man ran into lanes of westbound I-94, climbed over a median wall and into traffic on eastbound I-94, where he was struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler.
He was declared dead at the scene. Police at the time said it appeared to be have been a suicide.
Police said the Jeep driver, who was not injured, stopped at the scene and cooperating with investigators.
Eastbound I-94 was closed at Interstate 696 for several hours while police conducted their investigation.
