Gainesville, FL : A 20-year-old Starke man was killed in a head-on crash at Columbia County On Monday, June 27th, 2016

A 20-year-old Starke man was killed Monday morning when the pickup truck he was driving collided head-on with a semi in Columbia County.

Conner Chase Wheeler died at the scene, according to a Florida Highway Patrol media release.

The crash occurred on State Road 100 west of Meer Terrace at about 3:52 a.m.

Wheeler was driving the white Chevrolet Silverado west on SR 100 and veered into the eastbound lane. The pickup hit a red Volvo semi traveling in that lane.

The driver of the semi — Dennis Powell Pettrey, 57, of Live Oak — received minor injuries.
