Indianapolis, IN : Indy teen killed in Greenfield crash on Thursday, 20th October 2016
A 17-year-old girl from Indianapolis died Thursday after being ejected from the passenger seat of a car during a crash in Greenfield.
Angel Martin, 18, Greenfield, failed to stop at a stop sign at about 8:30 p.m., while approaching the intersection of County Roads 200 North and 600 West, police said. Martin's Buick sedan struck a Ford Edge, causing passenger Savannah Land to be thrown from the car.
Land was not wearing a seat belt when Martin's car collided with the Ford being driven by Kellie Wagner, 49, of Hancock County. Land died at IU Health Methodist Hospital, where she was taken after the accident.
The drivers, Martin and Wagner, suffered minor injuries.
Captain Robert Campbell of the Hancock County Sheriff's Department said it's unclear why Martin's vehicle did not stop at the intersection.
"At this point in time it’s still under investigation," Campbell said. "The driver says she didn’t stop. Witnesses say she didn’t stop as well."
