Two motorists were extricated from their respective vehicles Wednesday afternoon following a head-on crash on Rosso Highway (Hall Road) in Harrison Township, according to first responders.
Harrison Township Fire Battalion Chief Andy Houde said fire crews responded to the incident east of Interstate 94, where they found the drivers of the two cars trapped inside their vehicles.
Fire crews worked for about 20 minutes to cut the female driver out her car. They then turned their attention to freeing a male driver, who had been trapped in his van following the collision.
Both victims were transported to an area hospital. The female was reported to be in critical conditions, while the male had serious injuries, Houde said.
Harrison Township firefighters were assisted by Mount Clemens and Chesterfield Township fire crews, along with Medstar Ambulance medical technicians.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office closed the road about 4:30 p.m. while the rescue operations were taking place. It remains shut down between I-94 and Jefferson Avenue as deputies conduct their investigation.
Authorities expect the roadway to be open to traffic around 7 p.m.
