Columbus, OH : Fatal crash in Vermilion Township on Tuesday, September 19th 2017
A two-car crash in Vermilion Township on Sept. 19 has left one man dead, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
At 5:53 p.m., a 2011 Jeep Patriot traveling westbound on state Route 2 near state Route 60 when it entered the median before driving between the two bridges crossing over state Route 60, the release said.
The Jeep then drove off of the embankment between the bridges going airborne over the northbound lane and landing in the southbound lane of state Route 60.
The driver of the Jeep was died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the release said.
The 45-year-old male driver of the Chevy was not injured in the crash. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle suffered non-incapacitating injuries, according to the release.
At this time it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash and speed is being considered as a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
Other agencies on scene included Vermilion Township Fire Department, North Central EMS, and Erie County Sheriff’s Office.
