A Wilmington woman was killed Tuesday night in a traffic crash at the intersection of Independence and Shipyard boulevards, according to the Wilmington Police Department.
Maria Cruz, 49, died as a result of the 9 p.m. wreck, said police spokeswoman Linda Thompson.
Thompson said Cruz was an un-belted backseat passenger in a vehicle that turned in front of an SUV, causing a “near head-on collision.”
Four others involved in the wreck, including two children, were taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Their names and conditions were not released.
As of 9 a.m. Wednesday Thompson had no information on whether charges had been filed.
