Gainesville, FL : 33-year-old man died in motorcycle crash on Saturday evening, May 21, 2016

A 33-year-old Gainesville man died Saturday evening from injuries received when his 2009 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle crashed into the side of an oncoming car that was turning into the intersection as he approached, according to a Florida Highway Patrol release.

Romanda Lacasy Thompson was pronounced dead as a result of injuries from the crash after he was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital, according to the release.

The other driver received no injuries, the report said.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. Saturday when Thompson, who had been traveling north on Southeast 43rd Street, approached the intersection at Southeast Ninth Place as a 202 Buick Century traveling south made a left turn onto Southeast Ninth Place, crossing in front of Thompson.

The report said that Thompson tried to stop, laying his motorcycle down on its left side as it struck the side of the passing vehicle amid the intersection.
