Charlotte, N.C : Five Prisoners injured in transport bus crash on Interstate 77 at LaSalle Street on Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015

A Mecklenburg-County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) transport bus, carrying prisoners, was involved in a crash just north of uptown Charlotte Tuesday morning.

Officials say the accident happened on Interstate 77 at LaSalle Street. The exact number and names of prisoners onboard will not be released for security reasons, officials say.

Five inmates were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. A deputy was assigned to accompany each inmate. All five were released and were back at the MCSO Jail by Tuesday afternoon.

Two other vehicles were involved in the accident, but none of the occupants were injured.

Officials did not say exactly how the accident happened.
