Hebron, KY : Deputy, 3 others injured in 4-vehicle crash in Boone County on Monday, December 7, 2015
Four people, including a deputy, are injured after a four-vehicle crash late Monday in Boone County.
The crash happened at about 9:55 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-275 in Hebron.
Investigators said Deputy Jacon Ganshirt, 29, was parked in the emergency lane with his emergency lights on behind two vehicles at the time of the crash.
Ganshirt was in his cruiser collecting information when a car driven by 18-year-old Jose Rodas, of Covington, slammed into the vehicle from behind.
The impact sent the cruiser into the vehicle ahead of it, and that vehicle into the car in front of it. Officials said Rodas ran away but was found near the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and arrested.
Investigators said Ganshirt was trapped in his patrol car until airport police arrived to help him out.
Ganshirt, Rodas, 55-year-old Daniel Franklin, of Newtown, Ind., and 67-year-old Patricia Vush, of Newtown, Ind., were taken to Saint Elizabeth Hospital in Florence for treatment.
Rodas faces charges including: reckless driving, failure of owner to maintain required insurance, no operators license, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, possession of open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle, criminal mischief, wanton endangerment, assault and leaving the scene of an accident – failure to render aid or assistance.
No other details have been released.
