Palm Springs, CA : Beaumont man dead in I-10 crash near Cabazon on Thursday morning, August 18, 2016
The Riverside County Coroner's Office has identified the man who died in a crash on Interstate 10 near Cabazon Thursday as Cameron Francis.
The 24-year-old Beaumont man died in a crash on I-10 eastbound Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at about 6 a.m. when tire tread on an SUV separated causing the driver to lose control, CHP said in a release. The SUV crossed four lanes of traffic and crashed into the rear of a parked tractor-trailer on the shoulder.
Francis, a passenger in the SUV, was trapped in the wreckage and died at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to Desert Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both men were from Beaumont.
The tractor-trailer was parked on the shoulder because of an electrical malfunction, the driver was not injured.
Two lanes of I-10 were closed for three hours during the investigation.
